How the Client Signs
The signer installs nothing and creates no account: they open the link received by email, read the document, fill in what you left for them and sign with a finger or the mouse. It works on a phone as well as on a computer.
This feature is available on the Professional plan and above. If you don’t see it in the app, check your plan in Subscription Plans.
What they see when they open the link
The page is titled Contract signing and shows the document full width, with the boxes that concern them highlighted. Underneath there is one button: Fill in and sign, disabled until the document has actually been seen — nobody signs what they have not read.
The three steps
The template’s questions, in the reading order of the document: text fields, dates (with the format and the limits you chose), checkboxes and, if present, the payment choice. Required fields are marked with an asterisk. If a date box allows today only, the signer finds today’s date already written and cannot change it: it is written in the same format as the contract (for example 06/10/2026), whatever the language of their browser. If a template has nothing to fill in, this step does not appear.
The consent text — the same one that ends up in the PDF register — and the pad to draw the signature on, with a Clear and try again button. The signature is drawn once, even if the contract asks for it in several places.
The document with the values inside the boxes, a plain summary of every answer (dates in the box’s format, ticks as Yes/No) and the signature image just drawn. It ends with Confirm and sign.
They can always step back with Back: what they typed and the signature they drew are not lost.
The payment choice
If the template contains the Payment choice box, at the first step the signer finds two options to choose from, with the figures spelled out:
- Instalments — for example “€750.00 per month × 3 months (€2,250.00)”.
- One-off — for example “€2,000.00”.
The number of instalments is not a choice: it is the service duration. An option with no price does not appear, so a service with only an upfront price offers only that. The exact same text shows on the page, in the summary and in the signed PDF: you sign what you read.
In the PDF that text is printed inside the “Payment choice” box placed on the template: if the rectangle is narrow, the line does not fit. Payment type and contract value follow the choice, and so do the instalments that get generated.
Dates and ticks in the signed PDF
Dates are printed in the format chosen on the box (the one the signer saw in the summary, not another). Ticked checkboxes are drawn with a check mark; the ones left empty stay empty — no cross, no “no” written over them.
At the end
Unless the template says otherwise, the page turns into Contract signed with a Download the signed PDF button, and the same copy arrives by email. But the final page and the email text can be written on the contract template: the client reads your own words and may find a button that opens the chat with your agency (on the Enterprise plan, with the chat link active). The button to download the PDF is there either way. See The Post-Signature Page and Email.
The download from the link stays available for 30 days: after that, the page tells them to look for the copy received by email. If the email had not gone out, the page says so and invites them to download the PDF and keep it.
What the agency sees, and when
- On the first opening the contract moves from Sent to Opened.
- On every opening, the first one included, the Last opened time and the count (“3 openings”) are updated on the Contracts page, and the Timeline gets a Contract opened by the client entry: from the second one on with the opening number, always with the location and the reading time when available. Reloading the page from the same device within a couple of minutes is the same opening. The details of every opening are in the opening history.
- On signature the status becomes Signed, the Contract signed notification reaches the setter and the closer, and the effects run. From then on, openings of the link are no longer counted, just like those of an expired or cancelled contract.
- If the agency abandoned the contract, the signer can still sign it: the link stays valid and, once signed, the contract moves to Signed. See Abandoning and restoring a contract.
To check a contract, use Open PDF on the Contracts page: if you open the signing link yourself as a test, it counts as an opening by the client.
Messages the signer may run into
| Message | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Invalid link | The link is wrong, or a new one was sent with “Send again”. | Use the latest email received. |
| Link expired | The link’s validity has run out (30 days, or the value set on the contract template). | Ask the agency to send it again. |
| Request cancelled | The agency clicked “Cancel”. | Get in touch with the agency. |
| Cannot load the contract | A network problem. | Try again in a moment. |
If a client says the link “does not work”, check the status on the Contracts page before resending: Opened means the link works and they have already been in.
